Why Queensland: Unveils Sustain 2020-2022: A Strategic Plan for Queensland’s Creative Future

The Department of Environment and Science announced the release of “Sustain 2020-2022,” a critical action plan under “Creative Together 2020-2030,” a 10-year roadmap designed to foster and enrich arts, culture, and creativity across Queensland.

“Sustain 2020-2022” addresses the urgent need for recovery and revitalisation within the arts sector following the profound impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. The plan articulates the Queensland Government’s commitment to harnessing arts and culture as pivotal forces for community engagement and economic vitality.

Key Features of the Sustain 2020-2022 Action Plan:

Financial Support and Recovery: The plan is backed by a $22.5 million Arts and Cultural Recovery Package, which aims to rejuvenate the sector through targeted financial support.

Enhancing Sector Sustainability: “Sustain 2020-2022” outlines measures to support the sustainability of arts organisations, live music venues, and Indigenous Art Centres, ensuring they continue to thrive.

Promoting Innovation and Adaptability: The action plan emphasizes innovation, particularly in adapting to digital engagement and enhancing audience experiences through new technology.

First Nations Focus: A core component of the plan is to elevate and integrate First Nations arts and culture, reinforcing their essential role in Queensland’s cultural landscape.

The Honourable Leeanne Enoch MP, Minister for Environment and the Great Barrier Reef, Minister for Science and Minister for the Arts, stated, “This action plan is not just about recovery; it’s about setting the groundwork for a decade of growth and innovation. We are committed to creating a future where arts and culture are at the heart of our community and economic development.”

“Sustain 2020-2022” will pave the way for future initiatives under the “Creative Together 2020-2030” roadmap, aiming to foster a robust, dynamic, and sustainable cultural sector that contributes to Queensland’s prosperity and community wellbeing.
